Galaxy Z Fold 8 Release Date: Expectations, Rumours, and Price
What can we expect from Samsung’s eagerly awaited new smartphone? Is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 going to improve on previous Folds, or just be business as usual?
At Ghostek, we’re obsessed with smartphones. We also fancy ourselves as amateur online sleuths, so we’ve been tracking all the leaks and chatter about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and compiled them into the following guide. Partly to keep you all informed, and partly for fun.
The following article collects everything we found about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. You’ll find the release date, the pricing, the specs, and a few other tantalising bits of news.

In A Nutshell: Galaxy Z Fold 8 Expectations
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a lot to live up to. Last year’s Galaxy - the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 - was, and is, one of the most popular foldable smartphones. Samsung could easily take a “it’s not broke, so don’t fix it” approach, but they are making a few tweaks and improvements. The overall design will be similar, but fans can also expect:
-
2,600 nits of screen brightness.
-
Faster charging.
-
A slightly thicker design.
-
Smarter AI features.
-
Bigger battery capacity.
-
16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
-
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 operating chip.
All this, plus an improved and updated camera. It also looks like Samsung want to keep the price around the $1,999 tag, and we’re hoping this doesn’t change before summer.
Tantalising, yes? Let’s explore further.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Release Date
We’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 to come out in July 2026. In the past, Samsung has unveiled its foldable phones at the Galaxy Unpacked event in the summer, and they’ve gone on sale a fortnight later. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Fold 6 went on sale on July 25th 2025, and July 24th 2024, respectively, so it stands to reason that we’ll see a similar timing for the new addition.
We also stumbled across a related rumour. According to a report on the Korean-language website ET News, Samsung is planning to ship up to 3.5 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 phones by the end of the year.
Now, to be clear, Korean isn’t a language that anyone at Ghostek has much knowledge of, so we can’t verify how credible that article is. But, if we assume that it’s accurate, it’s a clear sign that Samsung has complete confidence in the Z Fold 8. That is a lot of smartphones, and Samsung would not invest so heavily in production if it didn’t anticipate selling a huge number of units.
The Predicted Specs and Features for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 specs haven’t been revealed yet, but various leaks have suggested we’ll get:
-
256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage
-
A 6.5-inch cover screen and 8 inch inner display
-
120 Hz refresh rate
-
45W wired charging
-
Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11, and USB Type-C connectivity
What About the Camera?
The previous Z Fold smartphone had an excellent camera, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is getting a major upgrade. The expected updates include:
-
An increase to 12MP on the telephoto camera
-
A staggering 50MP on the ultrawide sensor
-
Added functionality to features like Photo Assist and Portrait Studio
-
More intuitive editing tools
The previous edition of the Z Fold featured a 200MP main camera. This lets users take incredibly detailed snaps and rightly received rave reviews, so we’d be astonished if it doesn’t make a return.
We imagine that our photography-loving audience will be salivating by now. However, if all that jargon means nothing to you, rest assured that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks like it’ll have a fantastic camera setup. Want to take selfies that bring out your best side? Or capture a breathtaking landscape in astonishing quality? The Z Fold 8 is the perfect way to do so.
What is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide?
We’ve been focused solely on the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 so far, but there is another model in the works that’s attracting interest. Samsung are planning to release a sister product called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. But what exactly is it?
The Z Fold 8 Wide is a wider variant on the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 model. We’ve seen larger, book-style folding smartphones from Google and Apple, and now Samsung are following their lead. There’s enough information floating about to justify giving the Z Fold 8 Wide its own article, but as a brief overview, we can expect:
-
The same launch date as the standard model
-
Approximate dimensions of 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9mm when unfolded
-
One less camera (leaked renders show a dual, rather than triple-lens set-up)
-
12GB or 16GB RAM
-
Up to 1TB storage
-
45W wired charging, and 25W wireless charging
As you can see from the leaked dimensions, the so-called 'wide fold' is well named. Design-wise, it will differentiate from the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 phone by resembling a book as much as a phone. It'll be an eye-catching device.
Should I Buy a Galaxy Z Fold 8 if I Already Have a Galaxy Z Fold 7?
If you’re a Samsung devotee, we imagine you’ll be itching to pick it up at the earliest possible opportunity, but what if you’re a more casual smartphone fan? Is it worth grabbing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 phone on the official launch date, or should you stick with your current device and wait for a future price reduction?
It depends on your circumstances, preferences, and budget. If you’re a photography lover and can afford to spend money, yes, we can comfortably recommend getting a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. You’ll get a fantastic camera system, not to mention a smoother performance, ample storage, a larger battery, an intuitive interface, and reliable connectivity.
However, if you’d rather wait for a price reduction, that’s a perfectly valid response as well. By now, you should be able to pick up an earlier Galaxy Z Fold smartphone for a lower cost, and they’re still excellent devices. For example, we gave the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 a glowing review last April, and we stand by every word.
